Real-Life Examples of BCIs

There are several real-life examples of BCIs that are already in use. For instance, NeuroSky released an affordable consumer-based EEG along with the game NeuroBoy in 2007. This game monitors your brain activity via a Bluetooth headset and uses that data to interact with virtual objects.

In 2009, Emotiv Systems released a headset called the EPOC that allows the user to play video games with only their brainwaves. The device can read 4 mental states, 13 conscious states, facial expressions, and head movements.

In 2012, g.tec introduced the intendiX-SPELLER, the first commercially available BCI system for home use which can be used to control computer games and apps. It can detect different brain signals with an accuracy of 99%.

Despite these advancements, we are still in the early stages of this technology. There are numerous challenges to overcome, including the complexity of the human brain, the need for large amounts of data for AI training, and the ethical considerations of reading and interpreting brain signals.
